CS Week 2014 @ES AAS, SofiaLast week, 8th-14th of December, 2014, was this year's Computer Science Week. Many classes in our ES School took part of the Hour of Code 2014, joining millions of students around the world in their endeavor to learn Computer Science.
ES Students from Kindergarten to Gr 5 enjoyed learning to code using a variety of educational software. Kindergarten learned to code with the 2Simple Modeling Toolkit & Kodable for iPAD. Grade2 used the 'Frozen' activities on Code.org. Grade 3 were coding with with 2Code on Purple Mash Mash, Hopscotch for iPAD and 'Frozen' on Code.org. Grade 5 used 2Code on Purplemash and various resources on Code.org. The Gr5 'expert' group, who taught teachers @ECIS how to code and program, advanced to learning JavaScript with Code.org and Khan Academy. We had a wonderful time. Enjoy our gallery of students having fun while coding and programming. |
Computer Science Week 2014AAS have registered for the One Hour of Code! This Year's Computer Science Week is nearly here! It will be from the 8th to the 14th of December 2014. Tens of millions of students in 180+ countries will join the Hour of Code 2014. The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching millions around the world, providing every student with an opportunity to learn computer science. Anyone, anywhere from age of 4 to 104 can join and one-hour tutorials are available in over 30 languages and no experience is needed.
We have access to coding software such as 2Code, Scratch, Kodable, Scratch Jnr and Hopscotch and various online resources. These are cross-platform resources and can be used on desktops, iPADs, or online with Chromebooks. I would be happy to assist your class with the hour of code in the ICT Lab, in your classroom or in other areas in the ES using desktops, iPADs or Chromebooks. We can do an hour of code or I would be happy to come for a 20 min introduction to the Hour of Code and the software with your class. In addition, Jonathan has just approached me with his great idea to send some of his Gr9 and Gr10 students to teach the hour of code to our ES classes. Let me know how could I assist approaching this wonderful event with your class! President Obama on Computer ScienceChris Bosh on Computer ScienceHour of Code - Mark Zuckerburg on 'Loops' |

ECIS 2014: ES Students Teaching Coding and Programming at ECIS“Gr5 students from the Anglo-American School of Sofia taught ECIS’14 conference attendees how to Code & Program over Skype!“ On Saturday, November 22nd, seven Grade 5 students from Ms. Pavlova’s Intermediate French class presented at the annual ECIS Conference 2014 in Nice, France. Our Grade 5 ‘technology leaders’ delivered a remote interactive workshop on Coding and Programming to ECIS conference attendees from all around the world! The session showcased collaborative work of teachers and students in the integration of the ISTE Standards into the Foreign Language curriculum. Their session was titled “Students Teaching Others How to Code and Program: Employing students as technology leaders to integrate Coding and Programming into the curriculum and develop 21st Century literacies and learning skills.”
Students’ interviews, a photo and a video gallery will be published in the next Issue of the AAS Newsletter(www.aas-sofia.org) on the 5th of December 2014. Follow our posts on AAS facebook, G+1 G+2 G+3 and twitter.

During this project ES Students from Ms. Pavlova’s Intermediate French class learned both language and technology skills by preparing to teach others. They used age appropriate coding and programming software to develop educational games that help our younger students learn French vocabulary related to weather and clothes. Students also acted as ‘technology leaders’ by teaching Mr. Gagnon’s Gr5 students in the US how to code and program so they can become technology leaders in their school, as well. Student games and their screencasts with software tutorials are available on our website: www.learningbyteaching.weebly.com.
